Kindergarten Social Studies Standards

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. K.3SS.C1.PO2: I can recognize the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.

  2. K.3SS.C1.PO3: I can recognize the significance of national holidays: d) Constitution Day

  3. K.3SS.C1.PO5: I can recognize that my classmates are different in some ways and alike in others. 

  4. K.3SS.C4.PO2: I can recognize the rights and responsibilities of citizenship: a.) elements of fair play, good sportsmanship, and in the idea of treating others the way you want to be treated b.) importance of participation and cooperation in a classroom and community c.) why there are rules and the consequences for violating them d.) responsibility of voting (every vote counts).

  5. K.3SS.C4.PO3: I can discuss the importance of students contributing to a community (e.g., helping others, working together, cleaning up the playground).

  6. K.4SS.C1.PO1: I can tell the difference between maps & globes.

  7. K.4SS.C1.PO2: I can make maps of places I know. 

  8. K.4SS.C1.PO4: I can find land and water on maps, globes, and pictures.

  9. K.4SS.C1.PO5: I can locate continents and oceans on a map or globe.

  10. K.4SS.C2.PO1: I can recognize through images how people live differently in other places and times. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. K.1SS.C1.PO3: I can put historical events and people in order using “before" & "after".

  2. K.1SS.C1.PO4: I can use Primary source materials ( e.g., photos , artifacts) to study people and events from the past. 

  3. K.1SS.C2.PO1: I can recognize Native Americans as the first people to live in North America. 

  4. K.1SS.C3.PO1: I can describe how explorers traveled the world and found new places.

  5. K.1SS.C3.PO2: I can recognize that exploration led to the exchange of ideas, culture & goods (food, animals, plants, artifacts). 

  6. K.1SS.C9.PO1: I can identify astronauts as space explorers.

  7. K.2SS.C1.PO1: I can retell personal events to show an understanding of how history is the story of events, people, and places in the past.

  8. K.2SS.C1.PO2: I can listen to recounts of historical events and people and discuss how they relate to present day. 

  9. K.3SS.C1.PO3: I can recognize the significance of national holidays: a) Thanksgiving 

  10. K.3SS.C4.PO2: I can help make and follow classroom rules to show democracy.


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. K.1SS.C4.PO1: I can identify George Washington as our first president.

  2. K.1SS.C4.PO2: I can identify the 4th of July as the United States' birthday. 

  3. K.3SS.C1.PO1: I can name national symbols and tell how they represent America. 

  4. K.3SS.C1.PO3: I can recognize the significance of national holidays: b) Presidents’ Day c) Martin Luther King Jr. Day 

  5. K.3SS.C1.PO4: I can identify presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as past leaders of our county. 

  6. K.3SS.C2.PO1: I can identify the current president of the United States. 

  7. K.3SS.C4.PO1: I can identify examples of responsible citizenship in the school setting and in stories about the past and present. 

  8. K.3SS.C4.PO4: I can identify people who help keep communities and citizens safe (e.g., police, firefighters, nurses, doctors). 

  9. K.4SS.C1.PO3: I can determine the relative location of objects using the terms near/far, behind/in, front, over/under, here/there, left/right, up/down.

  10. K.4SS.C4.PO1: I can discuss the food, clothing, housing, recreation, and celebrations practiced by cultural groups in the local community. 

  11. K.4SS.C4.PO2: I can discuss how land in the students’ community is used for industry, housing, business, agriculture, and recreation. 

  12. K.4SS.C4.PO3: I can tell how people make money in their community.

  13. K.5SS.C1.PO1: I can discuss different types of jobs that people do. 

  14. K.5SS.C1.PO2: I can match simple descriptions of work with the names of those jobs. 

  15. K.5SS.C1.PO3: I can give examples of work activities that people do at home.

  16. K.5SS.C1.PO4: I can identify the differences between needs and wants.

  17. K.5SS.C1.PO5: I can recognize various forms of U.S. currency.

  18. K.5SS.C1.PO6: I can recognize that people use money to buy things.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. K.1SS.C10.PO1: I can use information from written documents, oral presentations, and the media to discuss current local events.

  2. K.2SS.C1.PO1: I can retell personal events to show an understanding of how history is the story of events, people, and places in the past. 

  3. K.2SS.C1.PO2: I can listen to recounts of historical events and people and discuss how they relate to present day. 

  4. K.2SS.C1.PO3: I can put world events in order using before or after. 

  5. K.2SS.C1.PO4: I can use Primary source materials ( e.g., photos , artifacts) to study people and events from the past.

  6. K.2SS.C2.PO1: I can describe how people who lived a long time ago moved from place to place.

  7. K.2SS.C2.PO2: I can identify how people who lived a long time did things to make their lives easier. 

  8. K.2SS.C5.PO1: I can identify explorers as people who traveled to new places all over the world. 

  9. K.2SS.C5.PO2: I can describe how explorers shared with the people they met when they traveled the world.

  10. K.2SS.C9.PO1: I can use information from written documents, and the media to discuss current events. 

  11. K.4SS.C5.PO1: I can identify the origin of natural resources (e.g., fish from the sea, minerals from the ground, wood from trees, food from farms). 

  12. K.4SS.C5.PO2: I can describe resources as renewable, non-renewable, and recyclable.

  13. K.4SS.C6.PO1: I can discuss geographic concepts related to current events.
