Pre-K Learning Standards

Parents, these are the standards taught by Beyond Textbooks partner schools. This list is in alphanumeric order, and your school will likely teach them in a different order.

Approaches to Learning

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. AL.CR.C1a: I can tell what I want, think, and need. 

  2. AL.CR.C1c: I can try something when I am not sure what will happen. 

  3. AL.IC.C1a: I can join in or ask to do things with people. 

  4. AL.IC.C2a: I can try new things. 

  5. AL.IC.C2b: I can ask or tell about people. 

  6. AL.IC.C2c: I can ask questions. 

  7. AL.RPS.C2b: I can ask a grown-up for help to fix a problem. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. AL.AP.C1a: I can keep doing an activity. 

  2. AL.AP.C1c: I can come back to an activity. 

  3. AL.AP.C2b: I can solve problems when frustrated or sad. 

  4. AL.CR.C1b: I can do things without help. 

  5. AL.CR.C1d: I can keep trying when tasks get hard. 

  6. AL.IC.C1b: I can do things on my own. 

  7. AL.RPS.C1c: I can see how new things I learn connect to what I already know. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. AL.AP.C2a: I can keep trying an activity until I reach my goal. 

  2. AL.C.C1b: I can be curious about what other people say and do. 

  3. AL.RPS.C1b: I can see that an action can make something else happen.

  4. AL.RPS.C2a: I can figure out what I need.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. AL.AP.C1b: I can ignore distractions when I am engaged. 

  2. AL.AP.C2c: I can make my plan and try it. 

  3. AL.C.C1a: I can use my imagination. 

  4. AL.C.C1c: I can pretend with my peers when I play. 

  5. AL.IC.C1c: I can show flexibility and imagination in my thinking. 

  6. AL.RPS.C1a: I can tell something happened and why. 

  7. AL.RPS.C2c: I can decide which solution to try. 

  8. AL.RPS.C2d: I can see if the solution worked. 

 

Fine Arts

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. FA.M.C1b: I can sing or move to songs I know. 

  2. FA.VA.C1a: I can make art with different materials and in different ways. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. FA.M.C1a: I can make noise in different ways. 

  2. FA.M.C1c: I can make up my own songs. 

  3. FA.M.C1d: I can listen to a variety of music. 

  4. FA.M.C1e: I can sing familiar songs. 

  5. FA.VA.C1a: I can make art with different materials and in different ways.

  6. FA.VA.C1b: I can make art that shows my ideas and feelings. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. FA.CMD.C1a: I can move in different ways. 

  2. FA.CMD.C1b: I can dance to familiar songs. 

  3. FA.CMD.C1c: I can move my body to imitate things in my world. 

  4. FA.CMD.C1d: I can act out the movements to songs I know.

  5. FA.DP.C1c: I can pretend without props. 

  6. FA.DP.C1d: I can act out a story I know. 


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. FA.VA.C1c: I can make art work that is 2D (flat) or 3D (not flat). 

  2. FA.VA.C1d: I can share about my art. 

 

Language and Literacy

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. LL.EL.C1a: I can tell that signs mean something. 

  2. LL.EL.C1b: I understand that words have meaning. 

  3. LL.EL.C1d: I can find my name and the names of my family and friends 

  4. LL.EL.C2c: I can tell the book has a name and someone wrote and drew the pictures in the book. 

  5. LL.EL.C3a: I can tell which sounds are the same and different.

  6. LL.EL.C4b: I can tell that letters are the same and different.

  7. LL.EL.C5f: I can tell if I like or don't like a story.

  8. LL.L.C1a: I can pay attention to songs, stories, and words. 

  9. LL.L.C1b: I can join songs, rhymes, or short poems. 

  10. LL.L.C1c: I can follow directions. 

  11. LL.L.C2c: I can answer people.

  12. LL.L.C2f: I can take turns talking and be a good listener.

  13. LL.L.C3c: I can name things that belong together.


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. LL.EL.C1d: I can find my name and the names of my family and friends. 

  2. LL.EL.C4b: I can tell that letters are the same and different.

  3. LL.EL.C5a: I can look at books and listen to stories

  4. LL.EL.C5b: I can tell who is in a book and what happened.

  5. LL.EL.C5e: I can tell you what happened in a story and make a prediction about what happens next.

  6. LL.EL.C5g: I can tell if a book is real or pretend. 

  7. LL.EL.C5h: I can tell what a book is about.

  8. LL.EW.C1b: I can draw or write to show what I know. 

  9. LL.EW.C1c: I can tell an adult what I want written down on paper. 

  10. LL.EW.C1e: I can write left to right. 


Quarter 3 Essential Standards (in calendar order):
  1. LL.EL.C3d: I can tell when words begin with the same sound. 

  2. LL.EW.C1d: I can write my name. 

  3. LL.L.C3d: I can show and tell where things are.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. LL.EL.C1c: I can tell that letters make words. 

  2. LL.EL.C1e: I can get information from pictures and words.

  3. LL.EL.C3b: I can tell when words rhyme. 

  4. LL.EL.C3c: I can tell words that rhyme. 

  5. LL.EL.C3e: I can hear and identify separate words when spoken. 

  6. LL.EL.C3f: I can show the syllables of a word. 

  7. LL.EL.C3g: I can put the sounds together to make a word. 

  8. LL.EL.C5j: I can repeat things that are read to me using voice and words.

  9. LL.L.C2d: I can start talking to someone and take turns talking. 

  10. LL.L.C2g: I can change what I am saying so people can understand me. 

  11. LL.L.C2h: I can use more words to make a sentence. 

  12. LL.L.C3b: I can use clues to figure out what words mean. 


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the year):
  • LL.EL.C4c (Yearly): I can name some letters.

  • LL.EL.C4d (Yearly): I can create letters.

  • LL.EL.C4e (Yearly): I can make the sounds of multiple letters.

  • LL.EL.C5c (Yearly): I can ask and answer questions about stories that I hear.

  • LL.EL.C5d (Yearly): I can make a connection with a story.

  • LL.EL.C5i (Yearly): I can show the order things happened in a book.

  • LL.L.C2a (Yearly): I can talk in 3-5 word sentences.

  • LL.L.C2e (Yearly): I can use my voice and words the way my teacher shows me.

  • LL.L.C3a (Yearly): I can use a lot of words.

 

Math

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. M.CC.C1a: I can count with a model.

  2. M.CC.C1b: I can count to 10 and beyond.

  3. M.CC.C2a: I can use numbers in play. 

  4. M.CC.C4b: I can match an object to an object in a group. (1:1 correspondence)

  5. M.G.C1a: I can identify a shape in a real-life situation. 

  6. M.G.C1b: I can use words to describe a shape.

  7. M.G.C1c: I can make a shape with my hands or objects. 

  8. M.G.C1d: I can make shapes while I play. 

  9. M.G.C1e: I can use words to describe shapes.

  10. M.MD.C1a: I can sort things into groups.

  11. M.MD.C1b: I can tell why I put these things together. 

  12. M.OA.C2b: I can fix a pattern. 

  13. M.OA.C2c: I can duplicate a pattern. 

  14. M.OA.C2d: I can extend a pattern. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. M.CC.C2c: I can write and create numerals with my hands.

  2. M.CC.C2d: I can tell a numbers name when I see a number from 0-10. 

  3. M.CC.C3a: I can look at two sets of objects and decide who has more or less. 

  4. M.CC.C4a: I can tell how many are in a group up to 5 objects without counting.

  5. M.CC.C4c: I can count objects using a number for each. 

  6. M.CC.C4d: I can tell how many items are in a group after counting them. 

  7. M.CC.C4e: I can match a numeral to a set of objects. 

  8. M.MD.C2a: I can tell what I like when asked. 

  9. M.MD.C2b: I can show information that I collected. 

  10. M.MD.C2c: I can tell about my graphs or groups. 

  11. M.MD.C3a: I can use words to describe how objects are different.


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. M.G.C2a: I can use positional words and follow directions when they are used (e.g., between, inside, under, above behind). 

  2. M.G.C2b: I can use positional words when I speak to others.

  3. M.MD.C3b: I can use different things to measure.

  4. M.MD.C3c: I can use measuring tools. 

  5. M.MD.C3e: I can tell you in the right order what happens in my day.

  6. M.OA.C1a: I can add objects to make a group bigger. 

  7. M.OA.C1b: I can tell what happens to groups of objects when I put them together. 

  8. M.OA.C1e: I can count on with two numbers. 

  9. M.OA.C2f: I can tell how patterns are the same of different. 


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. M.CC.C2b: I can use my fingers or objects to show how many. 

  2. M.CC.C2e: I can tell the difference between a letter and a numeral. 

  3. M.MD.C3d:  I can put things in order by attribute.

  4. M.OA.C1c: I can take away objects to make a group smaller. 

  5. M.OA.C1d: I can tell what happens to a group of objects when I take it apart. 

  6. M.OA.C2e: I can create a pattern.


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the year):
  • M.MD.C2d (Yearly): I can look at a chart/graph to answer questions.

 

Physical Development/Health and Safety

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. PDHS.FMD.C2a: I can use my hands to work with tools. 

  2. PDHS.FMD.C2b: I can use my hands and eyes together. 

  3. PDHS.GMD.C1a: I can balance when I move. 

  4. PDHS.GMD.C1b: I can control how my body moves. 

  5. PDHS.H.C1b1: I can talk/share about healthy foods. 

  6. PDHS.H.C1d: I can tell you what my body does or needs. 

  7. PDHS.H.C1e: I can tell you what my body parts do.

  8. PDHS.S.C1b: I can identify basic signs and symbols. 

  9. PDHS.S.C1c: I can stay safe in the car and on the street. 

  10. PDHS.S.C1d: I can tell others to leave me alone. 

  11. PDHS.S.C1f: I can follow emergency plans. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. PDHS.FMD.C2c: I can use small objects and tools with my wrists and hands.

  2. PDHS.H.C1b1: I can talk/share about healthy foods. 

  3. PDHS.H.C1c: I can tell you how to take care of my teeth. 

  4. PDHS.S.C1g: I can tell an adult if I am hurt or in trouble. 

  5. PDHS.S.C1h: I can tell who keeps me safe and how they keep me safe. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. PDHS.GMD.C1d: I can make my body move in controlled ways.

  2. PDHS.H.C1b1: I can talk/share about healthy foods.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. PDHS.GMD.C1c: I can make different parts of my body move together. 

  2. PDHS.H.C1b1: I can talk/share about healthy foods. 

  3. PDHS.S.C1a: I can follow safety expectations with help. 


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the year):
  • PDHS.FMD.C2d (Yearly): I can do things for myself.

  • PDHS.H.C1a (Yearly): I can tell you how to not spread germs.

  • PDHS.H.C1b2 (Yearly): I can make healthy food choices.

  • PDHS.S.C1e (Yearly): I can tell my first and last name.

 

Science

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. SCI.IA.C1a: I can show curiosity.

  2. SCI.IA.C1b: I can tell about things in my world. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. SCI.IA.C1c: I can tell you how things in my world change.

  2. SCI.IA.C1d: I can tell you how things connect to each other in my world.

  3. SCI.IA.C2a: I can use different tools to get information about something. 

  4. SCI.IA.C4a: I can show data (facts) and share what it means. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. SCI.IA.C2c: I can try an experiment again to see if results are different.

  2. SCI.IA.C3b: I can tell that when one thing happens, something else could happen.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. SCI.IA.C1e: I can ask and answer questions about how things connect to each other in my world. 

  2. SCI.IA.C3a: I can use a variety of materials to collect data.

  3. SCI.IA.C4b: I can show my scientific ideas in various ways. 

  4. SCI.IA.C4c: I can conduct new investigations using my knowledge I learned. 


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the year):
  • SCI.IA.C2b (Yearly): I can make a prediction and test it.

  • SCI.IA.C2d (Yearly): I can follow an experiment over time.

  • SCI.IA.C3c (Yearly): I can tell you what happened at the end of an experiment.

 

Social Emotional

Quarter 1 Standards: 
  1. SE.S.C1b: I can tell people what I like or don’t like. 

  2. SE.S.C1c: I can say things about myself. 

  3. SE.S.C1d: I can show I am the same as and different from others. 

  4. SE.S.C1e: I can ask questions about differences between self and peers.

  5. SE.S.C2a: I can tell how people are feeling by their words, faces, and bodies. 


Quarter 2 Standards:
  1. SE.R.C2a: I can respond when someone talks to me. 

  2. SE.S.C2b: I can share my feelings with others. 

  3. SE.S.C2c: I can talk about how people are feeling.

  4. SE.S.C2d: I can share pride in my abilities. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. SE.R.C3a: I can take care of other people and their things.


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. SE.R.C2b: I can start talking/playing with people and keep talking/playing with them. 

  2. SE.R.C3b: I can stand up for myself and people around me. 

  3. SE.S.C1a: I can do things with confidence. 

  4. SE.S.C3c: I can use appropriate words and actions.

  4. SS.C.C2e: I can tell why people have wants and must make choices because resources and materials are limited. 

  5. SS.F.C1c: I can tell you what my family does together. 

  6. SS.F.C1f: I can tell what jobs each person in my family does at home. 

  7. SS.HE.C1a: I can tell you the order that things happen. 


Quarter 3 Standards:
  1. SS.C.C2d: I can tell why we have rules. 

  2. SS.HE.C1c: I can talk about what I did before or after an event. 


Quarter 4 Standards:
  1. SS.C.C2c: I can be a leader. 

  2. SS.C.C3a: I can tell places near where I live.

  3. SS.C.C3b: I can tell about where I live. 

  4. SS.C.C3c: I can tell you I share my world with others. 

  5. SS.C.C3d: I can tell you how to take care of my environment.
