Quarter 1 Standards

  1. 10.W.02: The Highly Proficient student can write an effective informative/explanatory essay that examines and conveys complex ideas clearly and accurately through the effective selection of details/facts/quotations, organization, and analysis of content.

  2. 10.W.09: The Highly Proficient student can use evidence from literature or informational text to support their claims. 


Quarter 2 Standards

  1. 10.W.01: The Highly Proficient student can write a strong and highly effective argumentative essay that develop claim(s) and counterclaims fairly, providing effective supporting evidence.

  2. 10.W.08: The Highly Proficient student can gather highly relevant information from multiple types of sources; assess and analyze the usefulness of each source; seamlessly integrate information into the text, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.


Quarter 3 Standards

  1. 10.W.07: The Highly Proficient student can conduct a sustained research project to answer a complex question or solve a complex problem and conduct high-quality research to completely address the issue. 

  2. 10.W.08: The Highly Proficient student gathers highly relevant information from multiple types of sources; assesses and analyzes the usefulness of each source; seamlessly integrates information into the text, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.


Quarter 4 Standards

  2. 10.W.03: The Highly Proficient student can develop real or imaginative experiences or events using effective narrative techniques, chosen words and details, and well-structured event sequences that actively engage and orient the reader. 


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the school year)

  1. 10.L.01: The Highly Proficient student can demonstrate strong command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

  2. 10.L.02: - The Highly Proficient student can demonstrate strong command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing, using that command to enhance style and meaning.

  3. 10.L.03: The Highly Proficient student can organize and format a piece of writing to conform to a particular style manual.

  4. 10.L.04: The Highly Proficient student can determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grades 9–10 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.

  5. 10.L.05:  The Highly Proficient student can demonstrate understanding of complex figurative language, complex word relationships, and subtle nuances in word meanings.

  6. 10.L.06: The Highly Proficient student can use and understand academic language in their reading, writing, speaking and listening.

  7. 10.W.04: The Highly Proficient student can produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are highly effective for the task, purpose, and audience.

  8. 10.W.05: The Highly Proficient student can improve their writing by following the writing process.

  9. 10.W.06: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technology's capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically.

  10. 10.W.10: Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.
