Quarter 1 Standards

  1. K.R.RF.01aThe Highly Proficient student can read text from a book correctly, without assistance.

  2. K.R.RF.01c: The Highly Proficient student can identify a simple sentence.

  3. K.R.RF.01dThe Highly Proficient student can correctly write words.

  4. K.R.RF.01e: The Highly Proficient student can write using correct spacing between individual words on a consistent basis. 

  5. K.R.RF.03cThe Highly Proficient student can fluently read the sight words for quarter 1.

  6. K.R.RI.02: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.

  7. K.R.RI.05The Highly Proficient student can identify organizational features of a text (i.e, title, author, illustrator, table of contents, headings, bold print, captions, etc.).

  8. K.R.RI.06The Highly Proficient student can independently name the author and illustrator, and tells their role in presenting information in a text.

  9. K.R.RI.07The Highly Proficient student can independently describe how the pictures relate to the text, and may also be able to create text for a given picture, or illustrate a sentence, explaining the relationship between the two. (Nonfiction)

Quarter 2 Standards

  1. K.R.RF.02aThe Highly Proficient student can write words using the correct letter(s) to represent a sound.

  2. K.R.RF.02b: The Highly Proficient student can create a list of multi-syllable words that rhyme, including words with consonant blends.

  3. K.R.RF.02c.1The Highly Proficient student can write segmented syllables when given a list of multi-syllable words.

  4. K.R.RF.02c.2The Highly Proficient student can write words by blending the beginning (onset) and ending sound (rime) of a word.

  5. K.R.RF.02dThe Highly Proficient student can identify and say the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in a multi-syllable word.

  6. K.R.RF.02eThe Highly Proficient student can make a new multi-syllable word by removing, adding, or changing sound in a given word.

  7. K.R.RF.03cThe Highly Proficient student can fluently read the sight words for quarter 2. 


Quarter 3 Standards

  1. K.R.RF.03bThe Highly Proficient student can read and write closed syllable words. 

  2. K.R.RF.03cThe Highly Proficient student can fluently read the sight words for quarter 3. 

  3. K.R.RF.03dThe Highly Proficient student can change or remove a phoneme(s) to create a new word, when given a word, and is able to read all new words created.    

  4. K.R.RI.04: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text. 

  5. K.R.RI.08The Highly Proficient student can independently identify the details an author gives to support the main idea.

  6. K.R.RL.04: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text. 


Quarter 4 Standards

  1. K.R.RF.03cThe Highly Proficient student can fluently read the sight words for quarter 4. 

  2. K.R.RI.01The Highly Proficient student can independently write questions and answer those questions, using details, from a nonfiction story they are reading.

  3. K.R.RI.03: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in a text.

  4. K.R.RI.09: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures). 

  5. K.R.RI.10: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. (Informational text)

  6. K.R.RL.01The Highly Proficient student can independently write questions and answer those questions, using details, from a story he/she is reading.

  7. K.R.RL.03: The Highly Proficient student can independently identify and describe the characters, setting, and important events in a story.

  8. K.R.RL.05The Highly Proficient student can write their own piece and, using evidence from their writing, tell the genre of their writing.

  9. K.R.RL.09: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in familiar stories. 

  10. K.R.RL.10: With prompting and support, the Highly Proficient student can actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. (Literature) 


Yearly Standards (taught throughout the school year)

  1. K.R.RF.01b: The Highly Proficient student can write a word independently, using correct spelling, when given an orally spoken word.

  2. K.R.RF.01f: The Highly Proficient student can correctly write each upper- and lowercase letter.

  3. K.R.RF.03a: The Highly Proficient student can say sounds for common blends and digraphs. (bl, pr, st, wh, ch, ing, ck, th, etc.)

  4. K.R.RF.04: The Highly Proficient student can independently read and summarize what they have read.
